For the first project in the Google UX Certificate, we were tasked to choose a prompt from a list provided and create a Mobile app. The prompt I chose was “Design an app that enable tutors to list their services and parents to search for and book time with tutors”. Working through this project I learned how to create Personas, User journey maps, identify user pain points and conduct user research through competitive audits. Most importantly I learned how to wireframe, create low-fidelity and high fidelity prototypes, and how to use Figma.

User Research Summary

User Research Summary

I conducted an online survey through social media and did some secondary research. I assumed parents just needed an app to find tutors but so much more that plays into finding a tutor. Parents want to make sure the person is background checked so they’re safe with the children. They also want qualifications, previous reviews, recommendations and the level of tutors that we can host on the website.

User Pain Points

User Pain Points

1

The inability to find tutors near home so it can fit in the family’s schedule

Allow Location setting or “Near me” setting automatically on

2

How do the parents know if this person has the appropriate education in order  to teach their children

If someone wants to become a tutor they must show proof in the subject they are trying to tutor for.

3

How can parents trust the tutor with their kids and with the education they provide?

Tutors will have profiles with all their information, ratings, and reviews

4

Some way to keep track of multiple tutors and connect with them safely

An addition of online scheduling, Invite added to app calendar so you can see all tutors on what days. Chats between parent & tutor

Research Questions

  • What can we learn from the steps users take whether they are a parent/student or an educator

  • How long does it take for a person seeking a tutor to find and book a tutor?

  • Do users think the app is easy or difficult to use?

  • How long does it take someone to become a tutor searchable on the app?

  • Are there parts of the user flow where users get stuck?
